The End
This is the end of Artprize Worst. It has been 2 fun years of bad art and interesting conversation. I would like to Thank Greg Gilmore and the folks at the B.O.B. for making my job easier than expected, Rick DeVos for starting an event that is rife with opportunities for snark, and all of you for sharing this blog with friends.
I would like to let you know that I truly believe that all the art pieces on this blog SHOULD be in Artprize. No matter how bad it may be, it has a place at the table (though maybe not the winners table). I hope that this blog has resonated with all of those who have walked around town for the past two weeks shaking their heads in dismay. I also hope that all the artists whose work ended up on this blog can take a joke.
I hope that in the future, Artprize continues to not only provide a venue for some seriously good and seriously bad art but helps the community to have an EDUCATED conversation about the pieces on display. Artprize is a great opportunity to feel both encouraged and disheartened about the city of Grand Rapids.
This blog won’t be back next year but keep your eyes out for my next project: living statues of Jesus and Betty Ford Riding a bear (carved out of a log covered in mosaic tiles) carrying a scrap metal fish in its mouth standing in a pool of hand-cut paper stars and stripes. It is sure to be a winner.
Thanks,
~Artprize Worst
